Ladakh awaits Centre's draft on Article 371(K) as distrust grows

More than a year after four people were shot dead during protests in Leh, Ladakh remains without a draft of the constitutional proposal the Centre has promised. The region's political leaders say confidence in the government's commitment is eroding as concrete steps remain elusive.
The Centre had indicated it would offer Article 371(K) protections to Ladakh, similar to provisions in place for other regions. However, no formal draft has been presented to local stakeholders for review or discussion.
Ladakh's leadership has expressed growing frustration over the delay, citing a widening trust deficit with the central government. The prolonged wait threatens to undermine dialogue efforts and heighten tensions over the region's constitutional status and autonomy.
