Mamata Banerjee and rival faction seek ECI ruling on TMC control ahead of nomination deadline

Two competing factions within the Trinamool Congress have approached the Election Commission of India seeking an urgent ruling on party name, symbol and control. The dispute centres on leadership of the party, with Mamata Banerjee representing one camp and the Ritabrata faction pushing for recognition.
With September 16 set as the final date for filing nominations, both groups have pressed the ECI panel to deliver a decision expeditiously. The outcome will determine which faction gains official party recognition and symbol access for electoral purposes.
The internal power struggle threatens to fragment the party ahead of key electoral contests, making the ECI's intervention critical for resolving the factional impasse.
