A major health scare unfolded in Punjab after hundreds of guests reportedly fell sick following a wedding function in Moonak town of Sangrur district. The incident created panic in the area as people who attended the ceremony began suffering from vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach-related complications shortly after consuming food served at the event.
According to local officials, the number of affected individuals increased rapidly within hours. What initially appeared to be a limited medical emergency involving a few dozen guests later escalated into a large-scale health situation, with nearly 250 people requiring medical attention by the following day.
Several patients, including young children, were rushed to nearby hospitals and healthcare centres for treatment. Medical teams at the Moonak Civil Hospital and surrounding facilities reportedly worked continuously to manage the sudden influx of patients and stabilise their condition.
Doctors monitoring the situation stated that emergency care was immediately activated as patients kept arriving through the night and into the next day. Health officials confirmed that all those admitted were under observation and most patients were responding positively to treatment.
The scale of the incident prompted swift administrative action, with local authorities deploying health teams to monitor the situation closely and ensure adequate medical support at hospitals handling the emergency.
Punjab minister Barinder Goyal also visited the hospital to assess the situation and interact with affected families. During the visit, he instructed officials to ensure uninterrupted treatment and adequate medical arrangements for all patients.
