Protect farmers' rights before cement project: Meghalaya tribal body

A tribal body in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills has called on authorities to prioritize farmers' rights before advancing a ₹1,800-crore integrated cement plant and limestone mining project. The project has faced sustained opposition since May, preventing the government from conducting public hearings as required. The tribal representatives have raised concerns about the potential impact on agricultural lands and livelihoods in the region.
