Centre directs states to crack down on unauthorised stem cell therapy
The Union health ministry has issued directions to states to take action against unauthorised stem cell therapy. The ministry emphasised that such treatments are permitted only for approved disease conditions within established regulatory frameworks.
Stem cell therapy for autism spectrum disorder must remain restricted to clinical trials, the ministry stated. Healthcare providers failing to comply with these directions face professional misconduct charges and penalties.
Authorities have been directed to ensure unproven stem cell interventions are not offered outside approved regulatory channels.
