Mumbai Airport Customs Seize ₹26 Crore Gold, ₹52 Crore Cannabis in One Month

Mumbai Airport Customs officers detected over 130 smuggling cases in the past month, leading to 55 arrests. The Air Intelligence Unit seized 19.65 kg of gold valued at ₹26 crore across 77 cases, with 13 arrests. Smugglers exploit price differences between Dubai and India, purchasing gold in bulk abroad and trafficking it through smaller consignments for local sale.
In a separate operation, Customs seized 149 kg of hydroponic cannabis valued at ₹52 crore, resulting in 37 arrests. Officers also detected nine foreign currency smuggling cases involving US dollars, euros, and regional currencies worth ₹3.37 crore collectively, with three arrests.
Customs officials attributed the smuggling surge to exploitation of commercial schemes and concealment methods used to evade detection at the airport.
