Nobel Peace Prize honours Navi Pillay's fight for justice

South Africa's first non-white woman High Court judge, Navi Pillay, has been honoured for her decades-long commitment to human rights advocacy and judicial leadership.
Pillay's career has been marked by her fight against discrimination and efforts to advance legal protections for vulnerable populations. A significant contribution has been her work in establishing legal recognition of sexual violence as an act of genocide, a landmark development in international humanitarian law.
Throughout her tenure in the judiciary and human rights work, Pillay has championed causes centred on justice, equality, and the protection of fundamental rights across multiple jurisdictions.
