Pakistan Says US-Iran Peace Deal Takes Immediate Effect; Strait of Hormuz To Reopen

Pakistan announced that the United States and Iran have signed a peace agreement that takes immediate effect, with a formal signing ceremony to follow on Friday in Switzerland. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who mediated the deal, said both nations' leaders had endorsed the accord.
According to Sharif, Iran will immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz while the US will lift its naval blockade as first steps under the agreement. The deal, called the 'Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,' was electronically signed by the presidents of both countries. Pakistan and co-mediator Qatar will host the official signing ceremony on Friday.
