Pakistani Police Mistakenly Kill 9-Year-Old Australian Girl in Punjab

A nine-year-old Australian girl, Hania Ahmed from Perth, was killed when Pakistani police opened fire on her family's vehicle in Punjab's Chakbal district on the night of June 10. The family was visiting relatives when they became caught in a confrontation between armed robbers and police.
The incident occurred after two robbers on a motorcycle allegedly took the family hostage at gunpoint. When police intervened and an exchange of gunfire erupted, an officer mistakenly believed the robbers were escaping in the family's rental car and ordered fire, killing Hania. Her father Adeel Ahmed and older brother sustained serious injuries. The officer was suspended, arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Punjab Police acknowledged the shooting violated established procedures.
