Supreme Court directs FSSAI to specify food label design, size, colour and placement

The Supreme Court has directed the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to provide precise specifications for food warning labels, including their design, dimensions, colours, and placement on packaging.
The court has issued thirteen specific queries to the FSSAI, requiring responses within ten days. While acknowledging progress made so far, the bench emphasized that more detailed clarification is necessary on label standards.
The directive also underscores the importance of effectively communicating health risks associated with junk food, particularly to children.
