Project Caracal aims to protect elusive wild cat in Rajasthan

Project Caracal, an 18-month conservation initiative, was launched in 2026 by multiple agencies working in coordination. The project involves the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), the Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History, and the Rajasthan forest department.
The collaborative effort aims to address the conservation challenges facing the caracal, an elusive wild cat species, across Rajasthan. The project brings together expertise from leading wildlife research institutions and state forest authorities to implement protective measures.
