Rabri Devi Vacates Iconic Government Bungalow After Nearly 20 Years, Shifts To Private Residence

Former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi has moved out of the government bungalow that had served as both her residence and the Rashtriya Janata Dal's (RJD) camp office for nearly two decades. She has now shifted to her private residence in Patna, bringing an end to a long chapter in Bihar's political history.
The bungalow at 10, Circular Road had been allotted to Rabri Devi after the RJD lost power in the 2005 Assembly elections. Located opposite the Chief Minister's residence, it remained closely associated with the Yadav family and the RJD's political activities for almost 20 years.
The latest move follows directions from the Bihar government, which decided to allot the bungalow to minister and party leader Nand Kishor Ram. The property has also been designated as the official residence of the Deputy Chief Minister.
Rabri Devi had initially resisted repeated notices asking her to vacate the premises. Last year, the state government first asked her to hand over the bungalow, and she was allotted another official residence in her capacity as the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council.
The issue later turned into a political flashpoint after fresh eviction notices were issued, prompting sharp reactions from the RJD. However, the party eventually softened its stand as the controversy drew criticism from leaders of the ruling NDA alliance.
Rabri Devi has now relocated to her private house in Kautilya Nagar, around two kilometres away from the former government residence. Meanwhile, her younger son and RJD working president Tejashwi Yadav continues to stay in an official bungalow allotted to him as the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly.
