AI System 'Plan Bee' Helps Railways Prevent Train Collisions with 255 Elephants in Northeast

Indian Railways has successfully used an artificial intelligence-based alert system called 'Plan Bee' to prevent train collisions with elephants across the northeast region. The system has helped avert potential accidents involving 255 elephants so far.
The AI technology detects the presence of elephants on railway tracks and triggers alerts to train operators, allowing them to slow down or halt services in time. This proactive measure has significantly reduced the risk of fatal collisions between trains and the large animals that frequently cross railway lines in forested areas of the northeast.
The initiative represents a technological approach to addressing wildlife-railway conflicts in regions where elephant habitats intersect with rail networks.
