Severe rainfall deficit threatens Kharif farming in Markapuram district

Markapuram district is facing a severe moisture crisis as rainfall has fallen far short of seasonal norms. From June 1 onwards, the district has received only 108.6 mm of rain against the expected 228.4 mm, marking a deficit of 52.5 per cent.
The shortfall has severely impacted kharif farming in the region. Crop coverage under kharif cultivation has dropped sharply to 21.09 per cent this season, compared with 79 per cent during the same period last year. The dramatic decline reflects farmer reluctance to sow in the face of inadequate moisture availability.
