At least 12 people were killed and 309 injured in an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday, according to Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA). The fatalities included four Saudi citizens and residents of several other nationalities: two Bangladeshis and one each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan. Some of the injured are in critical condition and receiving medical treatment at multiple hospitals.
GACA stated that the attack also caused property damage, the extent of which is currently being assessed. The authority expressed condolences to the deceased and wished for the injured a speedy recovery. The incident has drawn international attention to security concerns affecting civilian infrastructure in the region.
The attack prompted several countries to condemn the targeting of Saudi Arabia and express solidarity with the Kingdom. The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates strongly condemned the attacks, saying they targeted King Khalid International Airport and resulted in deaths and injuries to civilians. Multiple nations worldwide issued statements denouncing the strike on the airport.
