Sri Lanka Arrests Former President's Son Yoshitha Rajapaksa in Navy Recruitment Probe

Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, was arrested Wednesday by Sri Lanka's Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption after voluntarily appearing to give a statement. He was taken into custody following questioning.
The investigation centres on allegations that Rajapaksa was recruited as a naval cadet in 2006 despite lacking required academic qualifications in science and mathematics. Authorities are examining whether recruitment rules were altered to facilitate his entry into the Sri Lanka Navy.
The probe also covers his subsequent training at Britain's Royal Naval College, funded by the Sri Lankan government. A Colombo court granted him bail following the arrest.
