Supreme Court grants interim relief to actor Rajpal Yadav in cheque bounce case

Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has received interim relief from the Supreme Court in seven cheque bounce cases. A bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant exempted him from surrendering to jail, subject to depositing ₹5 crore in the court's registry by Wednesday. The next hearing is scheduled for September 15.
The actor challenged a July 10 Delhi High Court order that upheld his conviction. The disputes stem from 2010, when production company Murli Projects advanced approximately ₹5 crore to Yadav for the film Ata Pata Lapata. After delays in the film's release, seven cheques given to the company bounced, leading to seven separate complaints under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
Yadav was convicted in April 2018 and sentenced to three months imprisonment and ₹1.35 crore fine in each case. The High Court upheld the sentence, noting he had repeatedly promised payment but failed to deliver.
