Supreme Court directs panel to review cartoons in NCERT textbooks

The Supreme Court has ordered a retired judge panel to review the use of cartoons in NCERT textbooks. The directive came after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta raised concerns, arguing that textbooks are not an appropriate medium for cartoon content.
Mehta submitted that educational materials should maintain a formal standard and questioned whether cartoons align with the pedagogical objectives of school curricula. The bench accepted his position and constituted a committee to examine the matter and provide recommendations on the use of illustrations in official textbooks.
