Taiwan Intensifies Defence Efforts to Prevent War, President Says

Taiwan's president has declared a renewed commitment to bolster the island's defence capabilities in order to deter military conflict with China. The move comes as Taiwan's 23 million residents face persistent threats from Beijing, which claims the island as its own territory and has not ruled out the use of force to achieve unification.
Taiwan's leadership has signalled that strengthening defence infrastructure and military readiness remains a core priority. The statement underscores mounting tensions across the Taiwan Strait, where geopolitical friction between Taipei and Beijing continues to shape regional security dynamics.
China has repeatedly asserted its sovereignty over Taiwan and threatened military action if peaceful reunification efforts fail. Taiwan, however, maintains its own democratic governance and has sought to build resilience against potential aggression through enhanced defence spending and international security partnerships.
