US Air Force B-52 Bomber Crashes in California, Eight Killed

A US Air Force B-52 Stratofortress bomber crashed shortly after takeoff from Edwards Air Force Base in California on Monday during a routine test mission. The aircraft took off at approximately 11:20 am local time and crashed near the remote military installation northeast of Los Angeles. All eight crew members aboard are presumed dead.
Edwards Air Force Base confirmed the incident has shifted from a rescue effort to a recovery operation. Colonel James Hayes described the crash as "tragic and unsurvivable." The crew consisted of military personnel, government civilians, and contractors.
Emergency responders were dispatched immediately. Base officials reported the aircraft left behind a large plume of black smoke visible from a distance, with a blackened scar visible on the runway.
