US Court Blocks Trump's Visa Rule, Relief for Indian Students

A US federal district court in Boston blocked the Trump administration's controversial visa rule on Monday, just before it was set to take effect. The proposed rule would have capped the stay of F-1 visa holders (international students) and J-1 visa holders (cultural exchange visitors) to a maximum of four years, and imposed a 240-day limit on foreign journalists.
Indian students pursuing advanced education in America have been significantly relieved by this court decision. Many Indian students opt for long-duration courses, doctoral programs, and research-based studies that often exceed four years. Strict time limits would have posed a major obstacle to PhD scholars and those engaged in extended research, laboratory work, and thesis writing.
The ruling protects thousands of foreign students from having their US study plans disrupted by the administrative change to decades-old visa duration policies.
