Vitamin D Deficiency Linked to Cellular Stress in Heart: ICMR-NIN Study

A study by the Indian Council of Medical Research's National Institute of Nutrition (ICMR-NIN) has established a link between vitamin D deficiency and cellular stress in the heart. The research found that inadequate vitamin D levels disrupted the antioxidant defence system in cardiac tissue, leading to increased oxidative stress.
The study revealed that low vitamin D activated cellular pathways associated with heart cell injury and death. These findings underscore the importance of maintaining adequate vitamin D levels for cardiovascular health.
