West Bengal renames Mamata-era cycle scheme Sabuj Sathi to Sarathi; 12.59 lakh students to benefit
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has unveiled the rebranded bicycle distribution scheme, now called Sarathi, replacing the previous Sabuj Sathi programme. The initiative will distribute cycles to 12.59 lakh students this year.
Adhikari criticised the quality of bicycles distributed under the earlier administration and announced plans to establish a manufacturing facility in Howrah. The revamped scheme will also expand scholarship opportunities to include all eligible students.
The government has outlined additional measures including revival of NCC programmes to strengthen youth fitness and national security preparedness.
