Adivasis from SGNP and Yeoor march to Raj Bhavan for forest rights and ESZ protection

Hundreds of adivasis from Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) and Yeoor began a march towards Raj Bhavan on Thursday, demanding implementation of forest rights, protection against displacement, and basic amenities in tribal settlements. The 38-km march, organized by Adivasi Ekta Parishad, proceeded via Western Express Highway and reached Malad by evening, where police halted the protesters. The march will resume Friday towards Bandra Kurla Complex before reaching Raj Bhavan on September 13.
Tribals and environment activists oppose SGNP's eco-sensitive zone (ESZ) master plan, alleging it will permit infrastructure development and damage Mumbai's green cover. They claim thousands of objections were filed but the BMC failed to conduct fair public hearings before finalizing the plan. Protesters demand strict implementation of the Forest Rights Act 2006, including individual and community forest rights titles, and stringent implementation of the Panchayats Extension Act.
