Amruta Fadnavis trolling row: Social media users take sarcastic digs at Maharashtra CM's wife after FIR against X users over her remarks on Muslim participation in Garba

A controversy has erupted around Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, after the Maharashtra Cyber Department issued a notice to X Corporation seeking details of several accounts and posts under an ongoing investigation.
The notice, dated October 19, 2026, was issued under Section 94 of the BNSS, 2023, in connection with FIR No. 82/2026 registered at the Nodal Cyber Police Station in Navi Mumbai. It seeks account registration details, contact information, IP addresses, login timestamps and device identifiers, and asks the platform to preserve electronic evidence. The FIR invokes Sections 352 and 353 of the BNS, 2023, and Section 67 of the IT Act, 2000. Some accounts named in the list have reportedly been suspended.
The row traces back to September 2026, when Amruta Fadnavis said Muslims should be allowed to take part in Garba and Dandiya events during Navratri. Her remarks came after the VHP sought to bar Muslims from such events, a position backed by minister Nitesh Rane. Her comments drew criticism on social media, where users trolled her over her singing and public appearances.
The suspensions and the police action have prompted questions about whether the response is proportionate to criticism of a public figure.
