ED Lodges Complaint After Man Illegally Occupies Attached Thane Flat Linked to Dawood Ibrahim's Brother

The Enforcement Directorate has lodged a complaint with Thane police after a man allegedly illegally entered and occupied a flat that the agency had attached in a money laundering investigation. The accused, Haresh Kamble, reportedly removed the ED's possession notice and replaced the lock. Kasarvadavali police registered an FIR against him on October 15 under Sections 223 and 329(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, following a complaint by ED Assistant Enforcement Officer Rohit Rajesh Pewal.
The residential property in Neopolis Cooperative Housing Society, Kavesar, Waghbil village, Ghodbunder Road, Thane, was registered in the name of Mumtaz Azaz Shaikh, alias Raju. The ED had provisionally attached the property on April 8, 2022, and took physical possession on December 17, 2024, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The property is linked to a 2017 extortion case. Investigations revealed that Iqbal Kaskar, brother of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim, and his associates invoked Dawood's name to pressure real estate developer Suresh Devichand Mehta into surrendering a flat. The accused allegedly extorted Rs 10 lakh from the developer through cheques. The ED initiated money laundering proceedings and attached the property accordingly.
