Poor Street Lighting at Belapur Railway Station Approach Roads Poses Commuter Safety Risk

Inadequate street lighting on approach roads around Belapur railway station has sparked concerns over commuter safety. The problem is particularly acute on the route connecting Agroli Village and Income Tax Colony to Platform 1 and the station's main ticketing area, as well as the stretch between Urban Haat and the station, where poor illumination makes pedestrian movement difficult after sunset.
Of six street lights installed along the affected stretches, four are completely non-functional while the remaining two emit such dim light that it fails to adequately illuminate the ground. Residents said the poorly lit sections remain effectively dark after dark. A separate approach from Platform 1 towards Agroli Village and Income Tax Colony is similarly affected by non-functional or inadequate lighting.
Women, girl students and solo travellers are among those most concerned about safety on these routes, particularly during evening and night hours when commuters return from work and educational institutions. Residents have called for immediate attention to restore and upgrade street lighting infrastructure.
