Bihar man arrested for ₹1 crore theft from actress Lopamudra Raut's Mumbai home

Nearly a month after valuables worth over ₹1 crore were stolen from actress Lopamudra Raut's Santacruz residence in Mumbai, police have arrested a 26-year-old habitual offender from Darbhanga, Bihar. The suspect, Chandan Mukhiya, allegedly worked as a cook at various locations and has multiple cases registered against him at Mumbai police stations.
Police recovered stolen property valued at ₹76.39 lakh, including a Rolex watch worth ₹5 lakh and a 200-gram gold bar valued at ₹25 lakh. Mukhiya allegedly surveilled the actress's flat for four to five days before breaking in on July 14. He used a bamboo stick to reach the balcony and stole gold and diamond jewellery, cash totalling ₹54.6 lakh, and foreign currency.
Investigators froze ₹46.39 lakh that Mukhiya had transferred to a Bihar trader for land purchase. Police found that Mukhiya purchased a 2,722-sq-ft plot in his village in his sister's name using proceeds from the theft. His uncle and a hardware businessman are also under investigation for allegedly assisting in disposing of stolen items.
