BJP Inaugurates Virar Sports Complex After Standoff; Shiv Sena Joins Row

A political standoff over the inauguration of the Virar sports complex in Vasai, Maharashtra escalated on October 3 when the BJP cut the ceremonial ribbon at around 4:00 PM, hours after the confrontation began at 10:00 AM. The dispute centres on credit for the ₹69-crore Bolinj sports complex project.
Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) leader and MLA Ravindra Pathak visited the complex following the BJP's afternoon inauguration, adding a new political dimension to the clash with the ruling Bahujan Vikas Aagadhi (BVA). Police imposed heavy restrictions and barricaded roads leading to the venue throughout the standoff.
The unusual spectacle drew regional attention as the BVA scheduled its own official inauguration ceremony for the same complex at 5:00 PM the same day, resulting in two separate ceremonies by different political parties on a single project.
