Bombay High Court Rejects Stay on Kangana Ranaut's 'Queen Full Power', Finds No Similarity to 2014 Film

The Bombay High Court has refused to grant an interim injunction against Queen Full Power, starring BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, ruling that the proposed film bears no prima facie similarity to the 2014 film Queen. Justice Sandeep Marne observed that a comparison of the synopses of both films revealed no commonality in their stories, plots, or themes.
Phantom Studios had approached the court in July, claiming that an agreement signed during the production of the original Queen entitled it to 50 per cent rights in any future sequel or prequel. The production house sought to restrain the film's release and claimed damages of ₹250 crore. The producers of Queen Full Power maintained that their film was an original, independent production with a fresh storyline.
The court distinguished between the two films, noting that the 2014 Queen was a romantic drama, while Queen Full Power is a kidnapping-based comic thriller centred on a middle-aged Marathi woman whose ordinary life in Mumbai is disrupted by a kidnapping. The court held that Queen Full Power was neither a sequel, prequel, spin-off, nor reboot of the original film.
