Two arrested for accepting ₹5.5 lakh bribe on behalf of Pune police constable

The Pune Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested two private persons for allegedly accepting a ₹5.5 lakh bribe on behalf of Police Constable Anil Mahadev Shinde in Malshiras, Solapur district. The trap was laid on August 28 after ACB verified multiple bribery demands. The suspects were caught accepting the money under a bridge on the Malshiras-Piliv Road. The arrested persons are Aba Sawala Walkunde, 48, a private driver, and Mahadev Pandhari Mane, 39, both from Malshiras.
According to ACB, the complainant, a 37-year-old licence consultant, approached the bureau on August 21 alleging that Constable Shinde had demanded ₹25 lakh for himself and Deputy Superintendent of Police Santosh Walke. The money was allegedly demanded to prevent a case from being registered against the complainant's brother. When the complainant refused, a case was registered at Akluj Police Station. Shinde later allegedly demanded ₹25 lakh for DySP Walke to help secure anticipatory bail and another ₹5 lakh for himself.
