CJP members in Mumbai and Nagpur allege police pressure to skip October 10 protest

Members of the Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Vahini (CJP) in Mumbai and Nagpur have alleged that police are pressuring them to stay away from a planned protest scheduled for October 10 at Delhi's Jantar Mantar. The allegations come as CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke accused Chandrapur police of serving notices on party workers to discourage participation in the demonstration. The protest has been called to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
In Mumbai, CJP member Mayur Sharma reported that plainclothes police officers attended a party meeting at Sana Banquet Hall in Dongri on Wednesday, noted the names of attendees, and threatened participants with FIRs if they attended the protest. The party's Mumbai coordinator, Pranay Ahire, said he received calls from six or seven police stations inquiring about his plans for October 10. In Nagpur, another coordinator alleged that police visited his home. At a press conference in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Dipke criticized the Chandrapur notices, stating they asked workers not to join the protest and questioned how they would pay for the trip, which he termed "dictatorship."
The allegations extend beyond Chandrapur district, suggesting a wider pattern of intimidation efforts. Police have stated they are "doing our job" in response to these accusations.
