Mumbai's Cuffe Parade Marina Project Stalled Over Nariman Point Bridge Overlap

The proposed marina development at Cuffe Parade has encountered a regulatory setback after the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) deferred its decision on the project. The authority is awaiting clarification from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on whether the marina would overlap with an independently proposed bridge linking Nariman Point to Colaba and Cuffe Parade.
At its September 24 meeting, MCZMA considered a fresh coastal regulation zone clearance application by Rashmi Development Private Limited for an inland water transport terminal and marina at the site. Expert members flagged that MMRDA's bridge proposal occupies the same or nearby location, and the bridge has already been recommended to the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change for approval.
The developer submitted a revised application after withdrawing an earlier proposal in August. The updated plan shows a significant reduction in built-up area from 35,000 to 18,600 square metres. MCZMA has asked Rashmi Development to obtain either an NOC or written clarification from MMRDA confirming the two projects would not conflict before the marina application can proceed.
