Fadnavis takes dig at Thackeray cousins over protest march, compares them to 'Ghajini'

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday criticized the protest march led by Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray, comparing the leaders to 'Ghajini' characters. Speaking to reporters, Fadnavis said the march was an expression of frustration against the Election Commission after being rejected by the people, and noted that despite the publicity, attendance at the march was thin.
Uddhav Thackeray, chief of Shiv Sena (UBT), and his cousin Raj Thackeray of the MNS led the protest from Metro Cinema to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation headquarters in south Mumbai, demanding the ouster of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Congress leaders and NCP (SP) members also participated in the rally.
Fadnavis pointed out the logical inconsistency in their demands, stating that Gyanesh Kumar became Chief Election Commissioner in 2025, while Maharashtra elections were held in 2024, and the SIR began in 2026. 'How can the SIR of 2026 and the person who became Chief Election Commissioner in 2025 affect the 2024 elections?' he asked. In a dig at the opposition leaders, Fadnavis said one should try to sound believable while speaking lies, adding that they are blatantly speaking falsehoods and venting frustration on the Election Commission after being rejected by people.
