Drought-Hit Georai Farmers Seek Permanent Water Pipeline, Submit Plea to Sunetra Pawar

Farmers from Georai tehsil in Beed district have submitted a memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister Sunetra Pawar, seeking a permanent solution to the region's recurring water shortage. The delegation demanded that surplus water from the Godavari river basin and the Paithan Right Bank Canal be diverted to six key local reservoirs—Chaklamba, Shekta, Bangali Pimpla, Gorakshnath Kumbhajalgaon, Govindwadi and Georai—through dedicated lift pipelines or sub-canals.
According to the farmers, a single water supply to these reservoirs could sustain local water bodies and groundwater levels for up to three years. They argued that a permanent pipeline would reduce the government's recurring expenditure on drought relief measures such as water tankers and cattle camps. The memorandum noted that farmers have been petitioning the state government since 2012 with previous assurances remaining unfulfilled.
