Gold Worth ₹31.50 Lakh Stolen From Retired Officer's Hotel Room in Nashik

An 83-year-old retired Maharashtra Government Agriculture Department officer from Mumbai lost gold jewellery valued at ₹31.50 lakh during a pilgrimage visit to Nashik. Shobha Pandharinath Sonawane, a resident of Kandivali East, had checked into Hotel City Pride on Sharanpur Road on July 14, 2026. She requested the hotel manager to provide a caretaker to assist with daily tasks, who was engaged at ₹500 per day.
Sonawane returned to Mumbai on July 20 after completing her pilgrimage. On July 21, while checking her belongings, she discovered that 385 grams of gold jewellery—including bangles, mangalsutra, kada, chain, earrings and rings—was missing. She lodged a theft complaint at Sarkarwada Police Station the same day.
Police are investigating the suspected involvement of the hotel-provided caretaker. No arrests have been made and the jewellery remains unrecovered.
