Hinduja College students, volunteers clean Dadar Chowpatty after Ganesh Visarjan

Students and volunteers from K P B Hinduja College of Commerce participated in a beach clean-up drive at Dadar Chowpatty on Saturday following Ganesh Visarjan celebrations. More than 150 participants removed flower offerings, plastic, decorative material, cloth and other debris left after immersions, in collaboration with the University of Mumbai, BMC, Maharashtra State and the Coastal Guard.

Dr Navin Punjabi, Principal of Hinduja College, stressed that educational institutions must foster civic responsibility among students. He highlighted how plastic and waste from beaches eventually enter the ocean, harming marine life and ecosystems already stressed by climate change.

The NSS-led initiative, running for 25 years in collaboration with Khushiyaan Foundation, aims to connect students with environmental challenges and encourage meaningful action in their community. Participants viewed the clean-up as both an environmental responsibility and a gesture of gratitude towards Mumbai.
