IIT Bombay Postpones Mid-Sem Exams to October After Student's Death

IIT Bombay has postponed mid-semester examinations scheduled for September 26 and 27 to October 10 and 11, following the death by suicide of 22-year-old second-year BTech student Sahil Wakode on September 18. The decision was made after consultations with student representatives and stakeholders.
Wakode was allegedly caught using a mobile phone during a mid-semester exam before being found dead in his hostel room. His death triggered protests on campus.
The postponement will allow a newly constituted committee to prepare a student-friendly Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for handling suspected academic misconduct cases. The revised guidelines, to be approved by the Senate, aim to ensure examination-related cases are dealt with fairly and consistently.
