IIT Bombay student death: Crime Branch unable to unlock iPhone; Congress MP detained

The Mumbai Crime Branch is investigating the alleged suicide of 22-year-old IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakhode but has been unable to unlock his iPhone and Apple laptop. Forensic experts are attempting to access the devices, with investigators expecting results within two to three days. Police believe the devices may contain crucial information about circumstances leading to his death on September 18.
Police have recorded statements from around 25 people, including IIT staff, students, and Wakhode's parents. The investigation is examining allegations that Wakhode used ChatGPT during an examination, and CCTV footage from the examination hall is being reviewed. Wakhode's family has alleged they were taken to Yavatmal without prior notification and is considering a hunger strike.
Wakhode's parents met National Commission for Scheduled Castes chairperson Kishor Makwana and demanded arrest of professor Suryanarayana Doolla and IIT Bombay director Shireesh Kedare. The commission discussed the possibility of transferring the case to the CBI.
