IIT Bombay Professor Questioned For 10 Hours In Sahil Wakode Death Case

Mumbai: The Mumbai Crime Branch has recorded the statement of IIT Bombay professor Suryanarayana Doolla, who was booked for alleged abetment of suicide in connection with the death of second-year student Sahil Wakode. Doolla's questioning lasted nearly 10 hours on Thursday. The investigation has so far recorded statements from around 45 people, including Wakode's parents, fellow students, hostel staff, and others associated with the case.
Wakode, 22, was found hanging in his hostel room on September 18, hours after he was allegedly caught using his mobile phone during a mid-semester examination. According to his father's complaint, Wakode had alleged that Doolla subjected him to caste-based abuse for around three months and that he feared being implicated in a false case.
As part of the investigation, the Crime Branch has sent two mobile phones, a laptop, and a tablet belonging to Wakode to the Forensic Science Laboratory for data retrieval. Investigators are seeking evidence that could provide clues about events preceding his death.
