Mumbai's water reserves exceed 90%, but BMC maintains 10% water cut
Mumbai's seven drinking water reservoirs exceeded 90 per cent capacity on Monday, up 1 per cent from last year and 9 per cent from 2024. However, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is maintaining a 10 per cent water cut imposed during summer.
The BMC cited the India Meteorological Department's forecast of below-average rainfall for August–September as reason for continuing the restriction. A senior civic official stated the water cut would remain until the city is assured of sufficient supply through August 2027. Four lakes — Vihar, Tulsi, Tansa and Modak Sagar — overflowed following heavy July rains, though the largest reservoir, Bhatsa, remains at 88.43 per cent capacity.
