CBI Court Sentences Former Jalgaon Income Tax Officer To 5 Years In Prison For Bribery

The CBI Court in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar convicted and sentenced Satish Kumar Bhadani, a former Income Tax Officer at Jalgaon, to five years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹1.5 lakh on Tuesday. The officer was found guilty of soliciting and accepting bribes in exchange for lenient tax treatment.
The CBI had registered the case in September 2016 following a complaint by a taxpayer whose income tax returns—along with his wife's—were flagged for detailed scrutiny. Bhadani allegedly demanded an undue advantage to avoid thorough examination and issue favourable assessment orders. The agency laid a trap and arrested him red-handed while accepting ₹40,000 in bribes.
The chargesheet was filed in December 2016, with formal charges framed in December 2021. After trial, the court delivered its conviction and sentence.
