Cabinet Minister Lodha Inspects Banganga Tank After Fish Deaths, Pushes Eco-Friendly Rituals During Pitru Paksha

Mumbai Cabinet Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha inspected the sacred Banganga Tank at Walkeshwar following a significant die-off of fish attributed to water pollution. During Pitru Paksha, thousands visit the historic tank to perform Pind Daan and religious rituals, with certain materials used in these ceremonies affecting water quality and harming aquatic life.
Lodha directed the Municipal Corporation to undertake immediate cleanliness drives, waste management, and precautions to prevent ritual materials from entering the tank. The inspection was conducted alongside Municipal Corporation officials and local corporators.
The administration plans to create ten artificial tanks and increase oxygen-supplying pumps to aid water quality recovery. These measures aim to protect the tank's sanctity and environmental conservation while accommodating the surge in visitors during the concluding days of Pitru Paksha.
