Maharashtra to Build ₹4,000-Crore Flyover in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Demolish Four Existing Ones

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced plans for Marathwada's longest continuous flyover, stretching from Shendra to Bajaj Nagar (Oasis Chowk), during the Marathwada Liberation Day event. Guardian Minister Sanjay Shirsat said the ₹4,000-crore project is essential to ease traffic congestion on Jalna Road, the city's main artery, which currently handles 2.5 to 3 lakh vehicles daily.
The Detailed Project Report has been prepared, and tender floatation is expected within three months. However, four existing flyovers constructed between 1985 and 2015 at CIDCO Bus Stand, Mondha Naka, Kranti Chowk, and Mahavir Chowk—built at approximately ₹135 crore with projected lifespans of 80 to 100 years—will be demolished in just 10 to 15 years.
A key concern surrounds the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, which was recently installed on a raised pedestal after being obscured by a 2012-constructed flyover. The administration must determine whether the new, taller flyover will be constructed to avoid the statue or if it will once again be obscured.
