Maharashtra declares drought in 265 talukas amid rainfall deficit

The Maharashtra government has declared drought conditions in 265 talukas across the state following severe rainfall deficiency during the monsoon season. The state recorded a cumulative rainfall deficit of 18.8%, receiving 755.9 mm of precipitation against normal expectations from June through September 18.
The declaration covers a significant portion of Maharashtra's agricultural areas, potentially impacting crop production and rural livelihoods. The shortfall during the critical monsoon months has prompted the official drought announcement, triggering provisions for relief and support measures in the affected regions.
