Maharashtra Begins DNA Profiling To Identify Indians Who Died In Nepal Flood Disaster

Maharashtra State Disaster Management Department has initiated DNA profiling to identify Indian citizens who perished in the Nepal flood disaster. Relatives of the deceased from Maharashtra have been asked to visit designated Forensic Science Laboratories on September 3, 2026, between 10 am and 6 pm for DNA sample collection.
Visitors must carry three passport-size photographs and either an Aadhaar Card or PAN Card as identity proof. At least two close relatives of the deceased—such as parents, children—must be physically present. DNA collection facilities have been arranged at forensic labs in Mumbai, Pune and Nashik to streamline the identification process.
The Maharashtra Disaster Management Department emphasizes that DNA profiling is essential for establishing identities and ensuring families receive necessary information regarding their relatives.
