Maharashtra drought forces farmers to sell livestock as water crisis deepens

Maharashtra is grappling with severe drought conditions that have left farmers in a precarious situation. With water tankers being dispatched primarily for human consumption, livestock across agricultural areas face acute water shortage.
Farmers are increasingly resorting to selling their cattle and other animals due to the inability to provide adequate water for them. The scarcity has become so acute that animal husbandry, a crucial part of rural livelihoods, is being severely impacted.
The state's water crisis has highlighted the imbalance in resource allocation during drought, with agricultural and livestock needs taking a backseat to immediate human requirements.
