Maharashtra FDA Cancels Cipla Warehouse Drug Licences Over Violations

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration cancelled the drug sale and distribution licences of Cipla Pharma & Life Sciences Ltd's carrying and forwarding warehouse at Wadki in Pune on October 1 following detection of alleged violations.
The action was taken after completion of fresh proceedings in compliance with Bombay High Court directions. It follows an earlier FDA action on August 27 over alleged irregularities involving packaging, storage, documentation and recall of Reactin Plus Tablets, a Schedule H prescription drug. The FDA had cited unauthorised claims on the drug's packaging and deficiencies at the warehouse.
Cipla received a revised show-cause notice on September 4, submitted its written reply on September 11, and was given a personal hearing on September 21. The FDA stated the latest decision was an independent regulatory decision taken after completing the entire process afresh in accordance with court directions.
