Maharashtra FDA Suspends 29 Food Licences Over Safety Violations; Cockroaches Found at Fortis Hospital Kitchen

The Food and Drugs Administration of Maharashtra has suspended licences of 25 food establishments and four edible oil and spice manufacturing units across the state following inspection-based violations of food safety standards.
Inspections at hotels, restaurants, bakeries, canteens, dairies and other food outlets revealed serious lapses. Suspended establishments include Mumbai Bites in Girgaon, Sophia College Canteen, Avenue E-Commerce, Janata Bakery in Jogeshwari, PSN Supply Chain Solutions, Sodexo India Services, and Arihant Aahar in Ghatkopar.
At Sodexo's kitchen in Fortis Hospital, inspectors found cockroaches, food waste in drainage, fungus-infested food transport containers and rusted knives while food was being prepared for patients. Arihant Aahar faced action following complaints about unauthorised artificial food colours in sweets. Janata Bakery secured only 32% marks in inspection. At Manmandir Sweets in Borivali, sweets were manufactured at an unauthorised location with fly infestation, unclean utensils and missing worker medical certificates, prompting a business closure notice.
