19-Year-Old NEET Aspirant Dies by Suicide After Missing Cutoff in Maharashtra

A 19-year-old medical aspirant, Ankita Suresh Sangale, died by suicide at her home in Jalalpur village, Ahilyanagar district, Maharashtra, after failing to meet the NEET-UG qualifying cutoff. Police said she left behind a suicide note indicating she was under severe stress over her examination result. The incident occurred on July 25 afternoon.
Ankita scored 166 marks in the retest held on June 21, falling 11 marks short of the qualifying cutoff of 177 for her category. After the initial NEET-UG exam held on May 3 was cancelled due to a paper leak controversy, she had to retake the examination. Her uncle said she had been under significant emotional stress since results were announced on July 16.
An accidental death report has been registered by Karjat Police Station, and further investigation is underway. Ankita, from a farming family, is survived by her parents and brother.
